His comment raised the prospect that Weinstein could be arrested if he returns to his native NY from Arizona, where he has been undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation centre.

She described the alleged encounter: "He pushed me onto the bed and his trousers were down and he lifted up my skirt".

Earlier on Friday, in response to media reports, Joan Vollero, a spokeswoman for Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., told Reuters, "A senior sex crimes prosecutor is assigned to this investigation, and the Office has been working with our partners in the NYPD since the new allegations came to light".

Detective Nicholas DiGaudio believes there's enough evidence from "Boardwalk Empire" star Paz de la Huerta to arrest Weinstein on charges of forceful rape in New York City. She has publicly accused Weinstein of raping her twice in her apartment in 2010 and called police about it on October 26.

De la Huerta described a second assault that allegedly happened in late December 2010, when Weinstein showed up in her building lobby after she came home from a photo shoot.

That's when the first alleged assault occurred.

Speaking to the publication on Thursday, Paz said: 'I was so terrified of him. She had been drinking and was not in a condition to give consent, CBS reported the actress said. She said she reluctantly let him upstairs and he raped her again. It happened very quickly....

The force also said it is investigating James Toback, the film-maker who has reportedly been accused of sexual harassment by more than 200 women, including actresses Julianne Moore, Selma Blair and Rachel McAdams.

The NYPD and Manhattan district attorney's office say they are investigating new rape allegations against Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein has strenuously denied the allegations levelled against him, which include dozens of women including Gwyneth Paltrow, Lupita Nyong'O and Cara Delevingne. She started in the business as a teen. She said she shared what happened with her best friend and her therapist. That's when she alleges Weinstein took off her dress and forced himself on her.
