Man fatally shot outside Chicago Starbucks was armed

A North Side alderman said he is taking "immediate action" after a drug deal led to the fatal shooting of one man, and the wounding of two people, including a 12-year-old, inside an Uptown Starbucks on Thursday night.

According to the CBS affiliate Chicago, the incident occurred at the Starbucks location at Lawrence and Broadway around 8:15 p.m. Thursday. The 12-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the groin. His condition is unknown at this time. He was identified as 28-year-old Sauvignon Watkins, according to family and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

It was speculated the shooting happened after a drug deal gone awry said Chicago police Town Hall District Cmdr. Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 11200 block of South Perry Avenue and found the man wounded in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle.

Buslik said police believe the wounded boy and man knew the dead man but did not elaborate on their relationship.

An altercation on a Chicago street ended with shots being fired inside of a Starbucks store. The two remain hospitalized, with the boy listed in good condition and the man in serious condition. The attacker - who wore dark clothing and a mask, followed him and opened fire - hitting the man.

"We are working with law enforcement to better learn specifics of what transpired and support our customers and partners", he said.

No one has been taken into custody yet.
