Aaron Rodgers going down medical rabbit holes to aid recovery

Packers.com will have more following practice and locker room interviews.

The Lions have played well early on over the past few seasons only to regress to their mean by season's end. That play was made possible by a facemask penalty on the Lions during Green Bay's attempt to lateral their way to the end zone. The Lions average 242 passing yards per game but just 82 on the ground.

In general with the defense, McCarthy feels the unit has featured some standout performers through the first half of the season, but collectively the results aren't where they need to be. The Packers have lost two straight and come in with a 4-3 mark. "I don't think anyone would guess that he's had surgery if you just saw him walking around so hopefully that puts him on pace to whenever it is that we'll get him back". It would at least give Brett Hundley the best protection he can get.

For the second time this season, the Packers have released veteran defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois, potentially opening up a roster spot for outside linebacker Vince Biegel.

Green Bay has won three consecutive games on Monday Night Football including a 27-13 win over Philadelphia last season. None of those games - except the Browns one - is a gimme for the Rodgers-less Packers.

Defensively, both teams are giving up between 23-24 points per game which would lead to the assumption that this won't be a shootout.

Without Rodgers, the Packers are in desperate need of an offensive spark.

Former Packers right guard T.J. Lang is if course now a member of the Lions.

Including a playoff victory, the Packers are 25-1 against the Lions in the state of Wisconsin since 1992. Hundley stayed in Green Bay for most of the bye week and McCarthy said he met with his new starting quarterback the day after the loss to the Saints and again at midweek while the rest of the players were away. So far, the Packers defense has just 12 sacks, better than just 3 other teams in the NFL.

This year, without Rodgers, the Packers will turn to the shifty Aaron Jones, who has scored four touchdowns and ran for 346 yards at 5.6 yards per carry in just four games this season. With a healthy offensive line, the Packers will try to pound it early. Fantasy Tip: Bye should allow Packers' banged-up secondary to get healthier.

In 2015 at Lambeau Field, Detroit finally upended Green Bay 18-16 to snap the streak. The Lions, who have fallen to 3-4 after a 3-0 start, are also looking to get back on track this week.
