Broncos name Brock Osweiler starting QB vs. Eagles

That's right, baby - Brock Osweiler is back as the Broncos starting quarterback.

The Flathead High School graduate is back under center in Denver after head coach Vance Joseph benched starter Trevor Siemian following Monday's 29-19 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

After departing the Broncos as a free agent for the Houston Texans, Osweiler was traded to the Cleveland Browns before being released and resigning with the Broncos earlier this fall.

The Broncos are 3-4 and on a three-game losing streak heading into the game against the Eagles. He was cut by Cleveland during training camp and signed to be Denver's backup ahead of its season opener in September. So Cleveland essentially bought a second-round draft pick in exchange for paying Osweiler almost $900,000 per week to start in Denver. Lynch, a first-round draft pick of the Broncos in 2016, lost the competition for the starting job to Siemian in August for the second straight year. Siemian posted a 64.1 passer rating in three games against the Giants, Chargers, and Chiefs, completing 60.3 percent of his passes for 781 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions.

It would be a shock if a switch from Siemian to Osweiler is not made by Wednesday morning. Clearly, this increased pressure has played some part in his performance over the last five games. After all, Lynch is still recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered during preseason. And as much as the Eagles' defense was looking forward to facing off against Siemian, there's a good chance they won't see that much of a difference when it comes to Osweiler. We wanted a veteran presence in our quarterback room, a guy who has played in big games, a guy who can lead our offense, if something like this would happen.

Osweiler's work during that stretch helped the Broncos earn the No. 1 seed for their postseason run to Super Bowl 50. If you try to go the same way and it doesn't get better, that's on me.
