Philadelphia Eagles trade for Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi

Ajayi joins a backfield in Philadelphia that also includes offseason acquisition LeGarrette Blount.

Jeff Darlington who has been covering the Dolphins for a very long time believes that the Dolphins are a bit concerned about the longevity of Ajayi's knee and that could have been a reason for the team seeking a trade partner.

The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi.

Instead, Miami's offense has been awful this season, and the Dolphins are changing their approach. He finished the 2016 season with eight touchdowns and 1,272 yards, which was the fourth-most in the NFL. It was speculated that the Eagles would be aggressive as the trade deadline approaches, but no one expected them to trade for Ajayi.

Now it's a waiting game as the league deadline for trades is not until 4:00 p.m. today and the Dolphins may not be done just yet.

Move over, NBA. The NFL trading frenzy is catching on. Dolphins running backs also have been responsible for allowing at least four sacks this year, according to the Miami Herald. "He is an upgrade, on his rookie contract, a big man who can do it all".

- Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams have combined for just 22 carries this season, but they'll be asked to shoulder the load in Ajayi's absence.

The Eagles have been balanced offensively in 2017 and Pederson said that one of his improvements in his second season was focusing more on the running game.

After the game, Coach Adam Gase said some of his best players on offense were the problem.
