Paul Finebaum has Ohio State in his College Football Playoff top 4

The first college football playoff rankings of the 2017 season come out tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Even if teams like Georgia, who have looked very impressive in their own undefeated streak, challenge or even supplant Alabama for the number-1 ranking, Saban is not going to be spooked tonight.

This much we know: It will be very interesting to see what happens between now and January 9, when Atlanta hosts the College Football Playoff National Championship at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. But they did lose so I have them here.

When asked on a couple of occasions on whether he would slot Notre Dame among the top four, Kelly steered clear of hypotheticals. I'm honestly giving you the truth in this answer: We just want to dominate this weekend.

The committee usually prefers its rankings to reflect what we know right now, so many teams have a chance to boost their resume with statement wins in the coming weeks.

The top two seeds, Alabama and Clemson, went on to face each other for a second-straight national championship (although the seeds eventually flipped), and No. 5 Washington and No. 6 Ohio State made it, although not without some serious questions to be addressed as the Buckeyes were without a conference or division title (which were won by the only team to beat them, Penn State). In 2014, when Ohio State crushed Wisconsin 59-0 in the Big Ten Championship game, that dominance was rewarded by getting the fourth slot over Big 12 champion TCU (which did not have a league playoff). The final rankings have the luxury of evaluating conference champions following championship games in each of the power conferences (the Big 12 is returning to the conference championship game format this season). In Ohio State's favor, Oklahoma is ranked inside the Top 10. The above formula is a good platform to build off of when selecting the teams.

Which is why I think Georgia will be No. 1 on Tuesday night.

"It was too hard", he said.

There are a bunch of quality one-loss teams left in the country.

Besides, Kelly said he can not become involved in watching all the teams all the time to make as sound a judgment as he would like.

Clemson may have an argument to be the best one-loss team. My ballot had Notre Dame third and Clemson fourth, and I suspect the CFP selection committee will follow suit for one reason: strength of schedule.
