Trump's Anti-Iran Rhetoric Isolates US, Not Iran: Commander

Oct 19, 2017, 00:22

If Trump ditched the deal, "Iran will shred it".

The supreme leader of Iran has defended the 2015 nuclear deal and used strong language to accuse US President Donald Trump of ranting and lying.

On Wednesday, an Twitter account attributed to Ayatollah Khamenei quoted him as telling students in Tehran that it was a "waste of time for anyone to answer" Mr Trump.

The UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union all endorsed the agreement.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has launched an attack on U.S. President Donald Trump for his attempts to row back on the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the global community.

Under the deal, Iran agreed to curb its disputed uranium enrichment program in return for relief from worldwide sanctions that crippled its economy, and United Nations nuclear inspectors have repeatedly certified Tehran's compliance with the terms. "There is an ongoing process in the United States".

Iran's highest authority also said Tehran was determined to continue its disputed ballistic missile programme despite the pressure from Europe and the United States to suspend it. Tehran has defended the move, saying the weapons are exclusively for defensive purposes.

"They must avoid interfering in our defense program".

"Or if they ask, 'Why does Iran have missiles?' then our response is, 'Why do they have missiles and nuclear weapons?'" Why do you have missiles yourselves?

He further said that "West‎ has no right to ask why Iran is present in the region, or why Iran has missiles".

"The Europeans' following of America's bullying policy is not acceptable for Iran", he said.

It has called upon the Islamic Republic not to "undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons".

If the deal falls apart, Iran's anti-Western hardliners will gain authority in a backlash against pragmatic President Hassan Rouhani, who engineered the accord to help end Iran's political and economic isolation, analysts and insiders say.
