Should Broncos give NaVorro Bowman a call?

The San Francisco 49ers cut ties with one of the few remaining links to their last run of National Football League success with the release of linebacker NaVorro Bowman. Unfortunately, he suffered two season-ending injuries in back-to-back years and was reportedly on the trade block before the season started.

While Bowman is still effective against the run, he is not the same brilliant player he once was in coverage and his heir apparent, Reuben Foster - who the Niners traded back into the first round this year to get - has the physical tools to be a force in both of those areas.

Over the remainder of the season, numberFire's models project Bowman to record 95.0 tackles, 1.2 sacks, 2.7 deflected passes, 0.7 interceptions, 1.0 forced fumbles, 0.7 fumbles recovered, and 0.08 defensive touchdowns.

Taking all that into account, the conclusion has to be that the 49ers are doing the right thing by letting Bowman scour the open market and find a team where he can compete for the Super Bowl ring he richly deserves.

"NaVorro gave his heart and soul to this team for the last eight years, and for that we are all extremely grateful", 49ers general manager John Lynch said in a press release.

NaVorro Bowman can still play at a high level, and one lucky team is going to get him for the rest of the year.

The Penn State product was named to the Pro Bowl in 2012, 2013 and 2015. "We wish him and his family great success". However, given the 29-year-old's injury history and his base salary of $6.75 million trading him proved an impossible venture. However, he was not on the field much during the team's Week 5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, even though he was not injured. "No one likes coming out of the game, but I'm a team player".

With Bowman gone, the 49ers basically discarded the last major piece of their team that reached Super Bowl XLVII.
