Cargo plane crashes in sea near Abidjan airport

A French cargo plane with 10 people on board crashed near Ivory Coast's commercial capital Abidjan on Saturday. As per pictures circulating in social media, the aircraft is seen in pieces.

The crash occurred during a storm.

French military sources said that French nationals were among the injured.

A witness had earlier told Reuters that the plane crashed shortly after takeoff. Reports claimed the aircraft is speculated to be a propeller-driven cargo plane. "The device has missed its landing and crashed in the water, off the coast of Port-Bouët (a village located next to the airport)".

A military official in Ivory Coast says four people are dead after a cargo plane crashed in the sea near the airport in Abidjan. The French cargo plane was carrying material for the French army, according to security guards on site.

Witnesses say a cargo plane has crashed into the Atlantic Ocean just after taking off from Ivory Coast's global airport in Abidjan.
