After seeing the first trailer for The New Mutants, if you were to tell us this wasn't an X-Men property, we would believe you. The movie comes from director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and is based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod. Alice Braga plays the role of Cecilia Reyes, who is a mentor to the group.
It was nice to know that the film Josh Boone meant to be a true horror movie, it was not that he wanted to surprise us with a casting rejuvenated, but it was not expected necessarily to what its first trailer charm as much. And now, mutant fans are finally getting a horror movie. The New Mutants certainly looks like it will bring something new to the table, and it seems like a risk worth taking - but whether or not said risk will bear fruit remains to be seen. For those who are already excited to get a first look at Fox's next X-Men spinoff, the wait won't be long now until the teaser trailer hits the web tomorrow.
