The X-Files Season 11 Trailer Drops

However, The Fall actress really didn't expect to return to her role opposite David Duchovny, who plays Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Fox Mulder, after last year's comeback series.

We now know what The X Files revival will be about when the show returns for Season 11, and it sounds like the series is going to revisit a character who was teased in Season 10.

She revealed: 'I thought I was done [after season 10]'.

"The truth still lies in the X-Files, Mulder", Scully tells her partner in the trailer. You'll see more of William than you've seen in a long time'.

Interestingly, Skinner has never shown up in any of Darin Morgan's episodes.

"Obviously something unexpected has happened", Carter says cryptically in the first look of the season from Entertainment Weekly. And we must believe that, despite the many flaws of the previous season, it is still the case, since Fox has ordered a season 11 that should correct the problem on a lot of plans. Morgan wrote and directed "Home Again" in season 10. When asked why she returning at all, she replied: "It felt like it wasn't over, didn't feel we necessarily delivered everything the fans were expecting of us last time".

As faith would have it, Den of Geek had the opportunity to speak with former X-Files executive producer and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan the day after Fox confirmed an eleventh season of The X-Files.

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993.

The X-Files returns in early 2018 on Fox.

Although Carter did insist The X-Files is "currently trying to live in a more diverse world", that doesn't change the fact that the two seasons of the revival were written and directed nearly entirely by men. However, if Deadline's report from NYCC is anything to go by, fans already adore what they've seen.
