WMU beats Buffalo in the seventh OT

Donnie Ernsberger scores OT TD, and his sister (so says her jersey) runs on the field before the game is over.

Western Michigan beat Buffalo 71-68 in seven overtimes on Saturday, which joins a four-way tie for the longest game in college football history. The kicker? Ernsberger's sister got kicked out of the game for coming on to the field.

After that unexpected drama, the game was still a long way from being over. That drew a flag, but Western Michigan made the PAT to send the game to a second OT.

WMU tight end Donnie Ernsberger (Battle Creek Lakeview) caught a 14-yard touchdown pass in the first overtime. In the end, the defending MAC champion Broncos survived after missing two previous chances to win earlier in the game to move to 4-2 on the year while Buffalo fell to 3-3 at the midway point of the season.

Western Michigan went on to pull out a 71-68 victory. Western Michigan celebrated before quickly exiting to the visitors' locker room. The teams are now in the sixth overtime - it's 59-59. Seconds later, his sister joined the team on the sideline to celebrate - even though the game hadn't ended.

Here's the real score: Someday, they'll look back knowing they participated in one of the most entertaining games in the history of college football.

Finally, in the seventh overtime, Buffalo scored a field goal and Western answered with a touchdown.

"This was probably the most exciting game I've ever been a part of", Leipold said, his voice cracking with emotion.
