Medication shortages possible in mainland U.S. because of Puerto Rican hurricane damage

One by one, cars are pulling into the parking lot filled with food and supplies for the people of Puerto Rico.

Two dozen MA police officers boarded a plane to Puerto Rico Saturday evening, leaving the mainland to provide much-needed aid more than two weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

"The suffering in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands is heartbreaking, and while we cannot rebuild their homes we can offer students a way to continue their education and help return their lives to normal", said EFSC President Dr. Jim Richey.

The officers will travel to the island in three waves for two weeks each.

Scott Gottlieb said in a statement that the agency is working to prevent shortages of about 40 crucial medicines. She believes she can to do her part by volunteering her time in events such as the Global Café.

Gottlieb said the power disruptions could cause new medicine shortages and exacerbate shortages that existed before Hurricane Maria, and Irma before that, slammed the island.

"What better way to channel that energy than to do something for Puerto Rico", said Medina. Scientology Volunteer Ministers International headquarters has put out a call for hundreds of VMs to provide relief in Puerto Rico.

The Central Florida community is coming together to get results, collecting much needed aid and sending hope to the people of Puerto Rico.

"What my family says is 'Estamos Bien - we're okay.' What that means is they're alive. Whatever, any little bit, we want to do it", Susan Ramirez, who donated supplies, said.
