New York Yankees get Cleveland Indians ace Corey Kluber in Game 2

"I screwed up", Girardi said (via the New York Daily News).

Girardi said in hindsight he should've challenged the hit-by-pitch ruling in the sixth inning that led to Francisco Lindor's grand slam that sparked the Indians comeback win in extra innings.

Cleveland holds a 2-0 series advantage over the Yankees with Game 3 scheduled for Sunday at Yankee Stadium.

The obvious challenge never came. After digging themselves into an 8-3 deficit, Cleveland rallied to win the game 9-8 in the 13 inning.

Chad Green recorded an out before yielding a double and nicking Lonnie Chisenhall on a controversial hit-by-pitch that loaded the bases. Replays confirmed the ball had nicked the bat and should have been called a foul-tip strike three.

Sanchez immediately yelled to the dugout he felt the ball hit the bat and not Chisenhall but Girardi, with both of his challenges left, chose not to use one of them.

Green gave up the grand slam to Lindor and David Robertson allowed a game-tying shot to Jay Bruce before the Indians finally won it in the 13th. He is going against one of the best postseason managers in Terry Francona in this series. Trevor Bauer pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings to anchor a 4-0 Indians victory in Game 1. "I'm excited for him because a year ago he missed out". CC Sabathia, meanwhile, was dealing like it was 2000 again, cruising along with his usual mix of off-speed pitches. Instead of putting Green on in the 7th, Robertson in the 8th and Chapman for the 9th, Girardi lost his lead, and ended up using Chapman for two innings, Robertson for nearly two, Tommy Kahnle and finished with Dellin Betances, also throwing for two innings before allowing Gomes to win the game. With five innings and one out behind him, Girardi stuck to his plan before the game instead of going with what he was seeing, which was Sabathia dominating from the 2nd inning moving forward.

Secondly, Girardi's pitcher wasn't in any kind of rhythm to begin with.
