Miley Cyrus, Female NBC Writers Cruelly Remind Clinton of Her Devastating Loss

One guest who did try to comfort Clinton brought up the fact that having a greater popular vote total is politically pointless but does qualify as winning a "popularity contest".

The former Secretary of State told Jimmy Fallon she was "devastated" on election night, "not just because I thought I was going to win and I wanted to be president, and I wanted to do the work of being president, but because I was so anxious about what it meant to have my opponent win", she said. "I was with her, I'm still with her, and right now, I literally am with her!"

Meanwhile, Cyrus got through about two words before choking up as she thanked Clinton for being a role model, inspiration and a voice of reason.

"Thank you Miley, the "Tonight Show" writers, and all of the women and young girls out there", Clinton said. The song, which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in June, includes the lyrics: "never would've believed you/ If three years ago you told me/ I'd be here writing this song".

"Thank you, Hillary Clinton, for handling this hard transition with more grace than I ever could have imagined", the second writer said before taking a silly turn.

At the end of the segment, Clinton got the chance to speak for herself and focus on something besides her shocking defeat. "Thank you, Hillary, for always sticking to the issues even as people criticize you for superficial things like your hair, your wardrobe, and your appearance".

Last night, meanwhile, she was also read notes of thanks by The Tonight Show's female writers as a piano played in the background.

After listening to the notes, Clinton sat behind Fallon's desk to write one of her own. "You are smart, strong and deserving of every opportunity", Clinton said. "And we won't stop'".

Everyone may know that Liam Hemsworth is engaged with Miley Cyrus and so, would stay well clear of any romantic advances, but that doesn't stop Miley from getting nervous.

Not everyone was a fan of the segment, however.
