Las Vegas gunman's partner 'an Australian'

In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Juertes said: "He wasn't very sociable". Authorities believe Paddock killed himself. "The FBI said Paddock tried to resist arrest and attempted to run down an agent with his vehicle", reports a July 28, 1960, article in the Citizen.

On Sunday night (Monday NZ time) he unleashed hundreds of rounds of gunfire on the crowd of concertgoers, killing 59 and injuring more than 500.

"We can't understand what happened".

"He was a nice guy, and helped a lot of people financially and did one hell of a lot for the kids", former Junction City Mayor Chuck Ivey, who was on the parole board, told the newspaper.

As for what motivated the actions of his brother, Eric Paddock said he and his family are "still just completely befuddled". "It's like an asteroid fell out of the sky", his brother Eric said to CNN.

Public records on Paddock point to an itinerant existence across the West and Southeast parts of America, including stints as an apartment manager and anaerospace industry worker. He liked to fly small aircraft and also had a hunting licence.

Stephen Paddock's brother Eric confirmed Monday that Patrick Paddock was his father, and NY dug up his old "Wanted by FBI" poster, which reveals that Patrick Paddock also went by such names as Benjamin Hoskins Paddock, Perry Archer, and "Big Daddy".

While the 64-year-old gunman responsible for the deadly mass shooting at an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas appeared to have no criminal history, his father was a convicted bank robber who tried to run down an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in Las Vegas in 1960.

Cops admitted they were not yet sure of the Vegas gunman's motives, with Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo telling reporters: "We have no idea what his belief system was - I can't get into the mind of a psychopath". Recent reports show that he had several high-stakes gambling transactions in recent weeks.

It is not clear if the transactions were losses or wins, but officials are quoted as saying they stretched into the tens of thousands.

The scene of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history was chilling.
