Oklahoma State Outguns Texas Tech in High-Scoring Game

The bout between Texas Tech and Oklahoma State will be a sellout, according to the official Texas Tech football Twitter account.

The Cowboys quarterback ran 16 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the final two minutes and Oklahoma State beat Texas Tech 41-34 on Saturday night.

The Cowboys will be looking up to James Washington and Marcell Ateman for their unparalleled catching skills.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders had their first loss of the season against No. 15 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Jones AT&T Stadium.

The defense also gave the Red Raiders a lift early in the game when the offense was doing next to nothing as sophomore defensive back DeMarcus Fields stepped in front of a Rudolph pass and returned it 95 yards for a score to tie the game at 7. Star wide receiver Keke Coutee, the team's most explosive offensive player, missed most of the second half with an injury, and his absence was felt while Tech struggled to take advantage of some offensive opportunities in the fourth quarter.

For Oklahoma State, senior quarterback Mason Rudolph threw for 376 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

This was Texas Tech's first national game of the year. His best work was on the ground, though, completely fooling the Texas Tech defense on two different occasions, which allowed him to walk into the end zone for a touchdown.

Oklahoma State drove the length of the field but was forced to settle for a field goal attempt after Rudolph was stuffed on third and goal from inside the five-yard line. There was also a face mask penalty after the Red Raiders' onside kick recovery that could have been costly, if not for Brailford's clutch interception. The Cowboys extended their lead with a 27-yard field goal, making it a 34-20 game to the end of the third quarter. In fact, they reached the red zone on every possession in the first half but couldn't find much separation on the scoreboard.

Early in the second quarter, Tech completed a scoring drive to take the lead, with Nic Shimonek passing in the right front corner of the end zone to Dylan Cantrell for a 3-yard touchdown and the Red Raiders led 14-7 with 14:14 to play in the second quarter.

Tech's success this year has largely been the result of excelling in turnover margin, where the Red Raiders have ranked among the nation's best.

On the drive following the interception, Oklahoma State moved the ball well again, only to have Matt Ammendola wind up missing a 22-yard field goal that bounced off the upright.

"We're not here to compete with people", Shimonek said.
