Air France flight with engine damage makes emergency landing

It's not every day you get to see an engine rip apart on your flight, and even rarer still is getting to take a picture of it and share it on Twitter.

Shocking images shared on social media show the plane's mangled engine.

One of the engines on an Air France flight from Paris to Los Angeles blew up over the Atlantic on Saturday, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing in Canada.

The plane managed to land successfully with the airline saying staff had responded "perfectly".

Daniel McNeely, a passenger on Air France flight AF66, described the incident to the Daily News.

The aircraft landed safely at 8:42 a.m.

"Technical issue identified, AF66 diverting per precaution to Goose Bay YYR for technical checks".

The re-routing has taken place so that the flight passed over Greenland, the aircraft landed at Goose Bay at 17h42 gmt, said the spokesman.

Canada following a "serious injury" on one of its four reactors, announced the company on Saturday in Paris.

"The Engine Alliance GP7000 is a turbofan jet engine manufactured by Engine Alliance".

The debris had to be cleaned up before Runway 26 could be reopened.
