After purchasing supplies, Barea planned the trip to Puerto Rico on Monday evening, reaching out to Cuban to request use of the team plane.

Hurricane Maria reached Puerto Rico on September 20, leaving 24 dead and most of the island without electricity, following the devastation of Hurricane Irma two weeks previous.

"That's a situation that he's got to take care of", coach Rick Carlisle said.

Now, Dallas Mavericks point guard and Puerto Rico native J.J. Barea is doing his part with a help from the NBA's most visible billionaire.

"I was really proud of J.J. and how quickly he got involved and how hard he worked to make all of this happen", Cuban told ESPN in a text message.

The 36-year-old rapper sent his plane to hurricane hit Puerto Rico so cancer patients could receive the chemo treatment they need. Barea, who's Puerto Rican, counting stranded family members including his parents and grandmother on the island.

Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez recently announced that she's donating $1 million to the relief efforts in Puerto Rico. She is also working with other celebrities to airplanes fly to the island with much-needed supplies including generators and medical equipment.

Barea set up a YouCaring fundraiser with his wife, Viviana Ortiz, to raise money for relief shortly after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico.
