Apple's iPhone 8: Here's how much it really costs to build

The substantial components costs for the entry level 64GB iPhone 8 Plus starts at around $288.08.

"From our [bill of materials] analysis, we can see that Apple invested heavily in the camera capabilities of the iPhone 8 Plus due to the increase in component costs", said Wayne Lam, principal analyst, mobile devices and networks for IHS Markit. Plus, as long as the iPhone retains its tech je ne sais quois, you'll be paying a zeitgeist premium for it. Although, in its analysis it doesn't include the cost of labour, marketing and research. Apple has spent $31.20 and $27.50 respectively on NAND memory by SanDisk and A11 Bionic processor. But the technology laid out in the patent achieves similar results while taking up much less space under the screen, potentially leaving space for the sub-screen fingerprint sensor to make an appearance in future iterations of the iPhone.

The document was discovered by MacRumors, confirming exactly what specs a third-party charger requires to speed up the flow of power to the new iPhones.

One of the main upgrades for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is a new proprietary six-core, 64-bit A11 Bionic chip, which is manufactured using a new 10nm process.

The release date of the flagship smartphone is set for November 3, so then we will truly see how much the iPhone X is in demand versus the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Though I hope to do a full review of the device soon, for now I'd like to go over three major improvements in the iPhone 8 Plus that I'm happy about relative to the 7 Plus, which has been my primary smartphone over the past year.

I could go on, but the point is that the odds are good that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus aren't unusually hard to manufacture, in stark contrast to what the rumor mill says about the iPhone X.

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are all equipped with a glass sheet on the back panel to accommodate the inductive wireless charging.

It is important to note that the TrueDepth camera is the most unique camera featured on any phones. The opening weekend sales o fthe two handsets were far below the Apple's forecasts. At best, the iPhone X will simply match the battery life of the iPhone 8 Plus. As for the online pre-orders, it was also relatively cold, according to industry analysts.
