Atletico Madrid reach Diego Costa agreement with Chelsea

Atletico and Chelsea announced on Thursday they have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Brazilian-born striker to the Spanish club.

And with that, the striker is no longer a Premier League footballer, much like the past few months in truth...

From when he joined Chelsea, only Harry Kane (77), Sergio Aguero (75), Romelu Lukaku (58) and Alexis Sanchez (53) managed to find the net more frequently in the Premier League than Costa.

The 28-year-old Brazil-born Spain global joined the Blues from Atletico in July 2014, scoring 59 goals in 120 appearances.

With relations between player and club at a breaking point, Costa refused to return to west London as he remained AWOL in Brazil - the land of his birth. Despite Costa's willingness to disclose the aforementioned information to the media compromising Chelsea's position in the market early on, the club have reportedly managed to successfully negotiate a financially favourable deal.

Craig Burley sounds off on Diego Costa and supports Chelsea standing firm on the striker's behaviour since last season. He made 89 league appearances for the club scoring 20 goals in a season twice.

According to the Spanish club website, Antonio Conte's team has authorised Costa to travel to Madrid in the coming days to undergo medical tests and settle his contract.

Having failed to push through the move before the transfer window deadline, Costa will not be able to play for Atletico until January due to the club's transfer ban.

May 27: Chelsea lose the FA Cup final 2-1 to Arsenal.

January 17: The owner of Tianjin Quanjian, who had been linked with a mega-money offer for Costa, says new rules in the Chinese Super League have altered their recruitment plans. Chelsea get what they want, as they can now move on from this giant distraction.
