Panthers TE Olsen leaves game with foot injury

Panthers tight end Greg Olsen suffered what he called a broken foot in Sunday's second quarter. It changed possession and cemented the Carolina Panthers' 9-3 victory. LeSean McCoy gained only 9 yards on 12 carries for the second-lowest average of his nine-year career.

GETTING HIS KICKS: Gano was locked in a kicking battle in the preseason, but is 6 for 6 on field goal attempts so far this season. The Panthers defense simply torpedoed the Bills' offense.

It didn't help the Panthers offense that center Ryan Kalil didn't play, although he was dressed, after reportedly waking up on Sunday with a sore neck.

Meanwhile, his defense was stout as well.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Good thing Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has a strong defense to give him time to adjust to his evolving offense.

Tyrod Taylor and the Buffalo Bills almost salvaged a poor offensive day, but Taylor's 4th-and-11 pass sailed into and out of the hands of an open Zay Jones on the one-yard-line as the receiver lunged and fell to the ground.

RB Jonathan Stewart is on the road to make history by surpassing DeAngelo Williams' most rushing yards (6,846). He rushed for 55 yards on eight attempts.

He limped off the field early in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury after being sacked for the sixth time. He eventually limped off the field but did not miss any snaps.

The Panthers almost repeated that scenario in Week Two of 2017, kicking a field goal from the Bills' 2-yard line with 2:35 left to take a six-point lead when converting on the fourth down would've put the game away. That ended on a failed fourth-and-1 conversion from the Panthers 44.

What the Bills did not do well: A significant part of the blame for Taylor's afternoon should fall on Taylor's receivers for not being open, and for Buffalo's management for not giving Taylor better options in the passing game.

The Bills held the Panthers to 0-for-3 in their red zone tries. Buffalo had three first-half sacks of Newton, including one that took the Panthers out of field goal range. Panthers C Ryan Kalil (sore neck) did not play and was replaced Tyler Larsen. Finishing Week 2 with one reception (on two targets) for 10 yards, he'll yield tight end to Ed Dickson.
