World XI departs after historic tour of Pakistan

Pakistan, a cricket loving nation has not seen worldwide team showcasing their skills in its grounds ever since a bus carrying the same Sri Lankan team came under drive-by ambush near Lahore's Liberty Square in 2009, injuring seven players.

"They were so pleased, saying thank you, and they were so excited by the players being there".

After defeating World XI by 33 runs in the final T20I, Pakistan sealed the three-match series 2-1.

Pakistan is now hosting a World XI cricket team for three T20 games in the eastern city of Lahore, a series that is being touted as a watershed moment for those bidding to restore global cricket in the country.

10400 security officials, including eight thousand police officers and 2400 wardens, performed the duties during the series.

"The way Pakistani people and the crowd - particularly at this ground - cheered for us at the end of the second game, which we won beating the home team, made us feel right at home", Flower explained.

The PCB has planned four T20 internationals over the next two months - one against Sri Lanka and a three-match series against the West Indies.

From Dubai, the World XI players will depart for their respective countries.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's Grant Elliott, who is now in Pakistan to play the T20 series for World XI, said he found security in the Asian nation as "amazing".

"They will have to be a complete different set of things put in place for South Africa to come and tour here", he said.

Du Plessis conceded he was nervous before coming to Pakistan, but once he arrived in Lahore on Monday he had no complaints. Now, the next steps have to be taken, meaning can they be rolled out in more than one city over a longer period of time. "Now going through this week. we've really enjoyed as a team, everything was very enjoyable for us". "It will take its natural course, but if we continue to have series such as these, teams continue to tour and everyone goes home happy then there is no reason why cricket can't be a regular feature in this part of the world", added Sami.
