Pakistan firing kills BSF trooper in J&K

India's Border Security Force (BSF) said that Pakistani soldiers fired at several positions along the volatile worldwide border.

"As a peaceful country, we never initiated fire from our side but will never hesitate to give befitting reply if compelled", IG BSF said. He was on duty at a forward post of the BSF in Arnia when the Pakistan Rangers fired mortars and also used small arms fire to target the Indian positions shortly after midnight. BSF Constable Brijendra Bahadur Singh was executed in terminating by Pakistan in Arnia range of Jammu and Kashmir's RS Pura segment.

A bullet hit the man on the left side of his abdomen and he succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital, a BSF officer said.

Bahadur, 32, hailed from Vidya Bhawan Naraypur village in Uttar Pradesh's Balia district.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan had accused Indian soldiers of unprovoked firing. Though no loss of civilian life has been reported, sources said at least one local was injured in the crossfire. "The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and global human rights and humanitarian laws", Foreign Affairs Ministry of Pakistan said.

Parekh said Indian soldiers retaliated for the Pakistani firing.

This is the fifth ceasefire violation by Pakistan in six days, according to PTI.
