Mahrez leaves Algeria camp to 'formalise' transfer

Leicester City expect Riyad Mahrez to return to the club after the global break, following a chaotic transfer deadline day which saw him attempt to force a move away from the club but failing to do so.

The Algerian now appears set to complete a move away from the club on deadline day. The 26-year-old has been released from Algeria's national squad in order to facilitate a move.

However, the Leicester Mercury have now added major confusion to the situation by completely contradicting both reports.

Barcelona are now believed to be the closest in signing Riyad Mahrez as they are preparing a bid of about 50-million euros.

Mahrez's destination remains unclear, but it seems likely that the former Premier League victor will leave the King Power Stadium before the transfer window shuts.

Leicester meanwhile insist they have not received a bid in over three weeks for Mahrez, and no new bids have been received in the last few hours.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Thursday that United has "no concrete interest" in Mahrez, the creative lynchpin in Leicester's astonishing Premier League title triumph in 2016-17.

Mahrez was the Premier League's Player of the Season in 2015-16 and despite a bit of a down year last season, remains a highly talented player.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Mahrez and are in a flawless position to make a move on transfer deadline day if we wanted.
