National Football League suspends Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott six games

Along with the domestic violence allegations, Elliott has made headlines for the wrong reasons this offseason too. The appeal would be heard by either NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell or his designee.

There were no charges from the police, but the National Football League laid down the law with the six-game suspension.

The suspension comes after a year-long investigation after Elliott was accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the NFL's warning was contained in a letter sent to Elliott where he was told that any more violations "may result in your suspension or potential banishment".

The NFL released a statement shortly after Schefter's report saying it interviewed more than a dozen witnesses and consulted medical experts. The Ohio State product has three business days to file his notice of appeal - while a hearing must be scheduled within 10 days of receipt of the notice, per the league's collective bargaining agreement.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has been reporting since last October that Elliott could face a suspension. They also looked at thousands of text messages and other electronic communication records, the statement said. Sure, there is the Big Ben suspension from years ago, but there were numerous incidents in that case. Elliott was allegedly involved in an incident at a Dallas bar that left a man with a nose injury in July 2017. Last year, Elliott was seen in a legal marijuana shop during the preseason in Seattle and was caught on video pulling down a woman's shirt during a St. Patrick's Day parade in Dallas this past spring.

The NFL has suspended Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for 6 games without pay.
