Giants' Ben McAdoo: Sterling Shepard suffered ankle injury

The Giants say Sterling Shepard escaped Wednesday's scary training camp injury with a "rolled ankle". After a few minutes, a cart was summoned and Shepard was taken off the field for further evaluation. After going through an array of tests, Shepard has been diagnosed with a low ankle sprain according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

That has torn ACL or ruptured Achilles tendon written all over it.

A sprained ankle would be about as good an outcome as the Giants could have hoped for given the way the scene played out on the field Wednesday. Either way, time will tell what kind of injury it is exactly.

"Sterling Shepard was looked at on sideline". High ankle sprains typically take about six weeks to heal, which would put Shepard's return at roughly the start of the regular season. They made the playoffs a year ago but lost to the Packers in disappointing fashion.

Either way, the Giants are hoping for the best outcome from this situation.

The Giants could replace Shepard with Dwayne Harris or another slot receiver for the time being if the injury is serious.

Shepard was poised to be a starter once again this season alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall.

"I shot him a quick text and let him know I was praying for him and thinking about him", fellow wide receiver Tavarres King said shortly after practice, noting he had yet to receive a response. Paul is a troublemaker for QB's with his relentless pursuit and batting down balls before they can reach the anticipated target.
