Does US-N. Korea bill risk China relationship?

On July 19, CNN quoted American officials as saying that the United States intelligence authorities had detected signs that North Korea is gearing up to test launch another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) or intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM).

Trump's administration is also considering other economic steps including "secondary sanctions" that could target companies and banks - mostly in China - that do even legitimate business with North Korea, officials said.

"There has been alarming progress", said Joseph DeTrani, the former mission manager for North Korea for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and a former special envoy for negotiations with Pyongyang.

"We're constantly in touch with China".

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang insisted, however, that the Chinese government would deal with any sanctions violations in its territory according to domestic law.

"The true test will be what they've worked out with Russian Federation", she said.

One possible stumbling block is whether the new resolution will refer to North Korea's ICBM test.

The US House of Representatives, with Republican majority, had approved new sanctions against North Korea, Iran and Russian Federation on Tuesday.

China's ambassador was quoted to have said that they are making progress on the resolution, which is to be submitted to the UN Security Council.

In the face of an imminent attack on North Korea by South Korea and the US, China might attempt to seize North Korea's nuclear facilities and occupy the northern part of the country, some predict.

"The apparent success of the July Fourth test is an alarming development as North Korea accelerates its pursuit of being able to hold the United States at risk with nuclear weapons", Committee Chairman Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said after the classified briefing, "I have grown increasingly alarmed that North Korea is acting with a greater sense of urgency than we are".

When asked about Moon's proposal of holding military talks and suspending hostile activities, then White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that President Trump "has made clear in the past that any type of conditions that would have to be met are clearly far away from where we are now".

In what it calls an effort to stay ahead of the North Korean missile threat, the Pentagon is expanding its arsenal of anti-missile weapons based at Ft.

"The true test will be what (the Chinese) have worked out with Russian Federation (and whether) Russian Federation comes and tries to pull out of that". "We're going to see what the situation is".

"We are constantly in touch with China and I can say that things are moving, but it is still too early to tell how far they'll move".

North Korea responded with its usual aggressive rhetoric.
