Anne Hathaway in talks for Barbie movie

Sure, why not. Hathaway can do comedy very well and she's not afraid to take the piss out of herself either, so yeah, this could work.

Amy Pascal, Walter F. Parkes, and Laurie MacDonald are producing the Barbie movie while Mattel's Richard Dickson is executive producing.

She may not be blonde, but she's set to be Barbie. The first big-screen, live-action Barbie film promises to get a huge marketing push from Sony and its partner Mattel in the summer 2018.

Hathaway had been in the mix shortly after Amy Schumer left the project in March. The script told the story of a woman who awakens slowly to the realization that she doesn't fit in the "perfect world" of Barbies and began her journey to the real world. Previously Amy Schumer was attached to the role, but bowed out due to scheduling conflicts. Jones is known for her 2012 Tropfest Award-winning short film Lemonade Stand. She is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Sloane Offer. This might be hampered by Hathaway's schedule.

Hathaway also starred in "Love & Other Drugs" in 2010 alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

Though many were looking forward to seeing what Schumer could have done with the role, it looks like fans are mostly pleased with the idea of Hathaway taking over. In 2012, the actress appeared in "Les Miserables" and "The Dark Knight Rises".

The film is expected to be rated PG, and in the mould of a broad family comedy along the lines of Splash, Enchanted and Big. Pictured: Hathaway attends the 15th Annual AFI Awards at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on January 9, 2015 in Beverly Hills, California.
