New communications chief says President doesn't believe in Russian meddling

Donald Trump's new communications director has called leakers of confidential White House material "un-American" and promised to take "dramatic action" to stop such information reaching the press. "I'll tell you who he's going to be president of - you can tell Donald I said this - the Queens County bullies association", he said.

Five of Trump's own national security officials - CIA director Mike Pompeo, Director of National Intelligence John Coats, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, counterterrorism and cyber adviser Thomas Bossert, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford - reaffirmed at last week's Aspen Security Forum that Russian Federation interfered in the election.

"Okay, it's the consensus of the intelligence community". They tried to interfere in the election. "What are you guys suggesting?" he asked.

"But if you're going to keep leaking, I'm going to fire everybody".

In a tweet on Saturday, Scaramucci acknowledged that he was deleting old tweets, writing, "Past views evolved & shouldn't be a distraction". He said Trump would make up his own mind in time and that if Trump believed Russian Federation was responsible for the 2016 efforts and a threat to future elections, he would act.

By that point, Tapper asked Scaramucci to slow down with the statements he had been making.

It's his first formal political communications role. He also cast doubt on the strength of the intelligence community's conclusions, citing the erroneous assessment that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

He also said on CNN's "State of the Union" that "we're going to defend him very, very aggressively when there's nonsensical stuff being said about him". Al Franken appeared at a loss, responding, "What can you say?"

Scaramucci went on to criticize the media for continuing to pursue the story. He wrote a scathing piece a year ago arguing against what he called "unbridled demagoguery" taking over the GOP.

"I just think we need to deliver the messaging a little bit differently than we have been doing it in the past", Scaramucci told the network.

Leakers, told Dickerson, were going to get fired.

White House communications director spars with CNN's Jake Tapper over Russia's election interference. Despite introducing new measures to curtail illegal immigration, there are few other obvious successes for the new communications team to trumpet.

"He hasn't made the decision yet to sign that bill one way or the other" should it be sent to him, he said.

In a news conference shortly after his appointment, Scaramucci revealed that he's been personal friends with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus for six years.

In October 2015, Scaramucci threw his support behind Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush, whom Trump often slammed as "low energy".

Apparently furious over multiple recent embarrassments - the Washington Post's scoop about his legal team having sought info on whether Trump could pardon himself, the exit of his blundering press secretary Sean Spicer, and the continued pursuit of his son Donald Trump Jr over a clandestine meeting with Russian representatives - Trump has finally let rip on the social media platform.

"The President is thinking about pardoning nobody", Scaramucci said.

He said things are going to be different in the Communications Department, adding the entire Russian Federation probe has no merit.
