KCR hails Mithali Raj for record runs in ODI

India will face New Zealand on Saturday in a do or die match for the semifinal berth. I felt that somewhere if I had few more batters to support me, maybe my game would have been much better. The final over, however, witnessed a quick fall of wickets with Mithali, Veda and Shikha Pandey (0) going one after the other as India finished at 265/7. Jhulan Goswami won the title of leading wicket taker in women cricket when she got her 181 wicket in a match against South Africa.

Player of the match Dane van Niekerk returned 4-24 as eight players made single figures - opener Chamari Polgampola and wicketkeeper Dilani Manodara top-scoring with 25 apiece.

Earlier in the tournament, Raj surpassed Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run-getter in women's ODIs and also reached the milestone of 6000-runs.

An excellent display of off-spin bowling filled with the riches of flight, loop, turn, bounce earned her a five-for and India a spot in the semis.

Member of CoA Diana Edulji said, "This is a result of Team India (Women's) dedicated effort, which has translated into a series of successful performances".

Victory for either team will see it through, while a tie or a washout would be enough for India to pip the White Ferns, as India is now one point better off.

New Zealand struggled from the start of their chase. The 24-year-old hit seven fours and two sixes in her 45-ball knock for 70 runs. India will have to channel the same spirit that propelled them to four consecutive wins to start the tournament. "This victory will go a long way in boosting our team's confidence with the ICC World Cup title in sight". This win ensured India qualify for the semi-final of an ICC event for the first time since 2010.
