Venus Williams 'at fault' in Florida vehicle crash that killed senior citizen

Tennis legend Venus Williams has been blamed for a fatal vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 78-year-old man in Florida.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he died two weeks later.

Venus told police that she had to slow her speed as traffic had become backed up, according to TMZ. His wife also received injuries from the accident, including several broken bones.

In July 2013 she was involved in a crash on I-95 in Palm Beach County, and was cited for driving on a suspended or revoked license.

"[Williams] is at fault for violating the right of way of [the other driver]", officers wrote in the police report, as reported by TMZ.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, the victim's wife told police that the vehicle Williams has exceeded an intersection, forcing the other driver to hit his auto.

The TMZ report does not indicate whether Williams is expected to face any charges. Barson's wife says Williams suddenly darted into the intersection and there was no time for her to stop.

Williams' agent did not immediately respond to request for comment from Business Insider.

According to TMZ, there is no evidence Williams was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or driving distracted. Williams also said she did not see the Barsons' vehicle when she crossed the intersection.
