CBO On Senate Health Plan: 22 Million Lose Medical Care

The CBO said most of the savings in the Senate bill would come from spending cuts to Medicaid, with federal spending on the government health program for low-income and other vulnerable Americans declining by 26 percent in 2026 compared to current law.

However, the Senate has already tweaked that aspect of the bill.

As many as 15 million more people would be uninsured next year, primarily because the legislation would repeal Obamacare's individual mandate, according to the estimate, which was released on Monday. President Trump encouraged that, calling the House bill "mean" in a private meeting earlier this month, something he confirmed in an interview with Fox News this weekend, adding that he wanted to "see a bill with heart". Senate leaders are hoping to press forward with a vote on the bill by the end of the week. It got health insurance to people who needed it.

The Senate's bill allows insurers to charge older people five times as much as younger people, gives states more flexibility to waive Obamacare's insurance regulations, and scales back the financial assistance people receive to buy private insurance. What's at stake here is the health of millions of Americans. There are some $701 billion in tax hikes repealed in the legislation, by the CBO's count. The House approved its version of the legislation in May. There's one awful number: The report suggests a first-year boost of 30 percent in premiums. McConnell is expected to offer other changes to his proposal as he seeks to nail down support for the package.

Johnson previously urged Republican senators to slow the effort to bring the bill up for a vote as soon as this week. Conservative senators, like Sens. Both the House and Senate bill would immediately cut off Planned Parenthood for at least one year.

Two months later, on May 24, the office released its analysis of the House's updated health care bill, which passed narrowly on a party-line 217-213 vote. "They're trying to jam this thing through".

"I'm undecided", he said. Heller faces a competitive re-election race next year. "The draft legislation violates that standard on many levels".

"They've been wildly off by a huge percentage when they've tried to score people", Spicer said. Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who has voiced skepticism about the bill, told CNN after the CBO report that she needed more information before she could decide how to vote. President Donald Trump continued his attacks on congressional Democrats on Twitter Monday, saying: "The Democrats have become nothing but OBSTRUCTIONISTS, they have no policies or ideas". All they do is delay and complain. They own ObamaCare!
