Giannis Antetokounmpo named 2017 NBA Most Improved Player

Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 2016-17 season, a memorable 82-game stretch (plus playoffs) that engraved his name as one of the bright spots in the NBA's future.

"The Greek Freak" had earlier been named named to the All-NBA second team and the All-Defensive second team.

He increased his numbers across the board, setting career-highs in minutes, points, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.

Antetokounmpo is the first Buck to win that award, after setting career highs in scoring (22.9 points per game), rebounding (8.8 rebounds per game), assists (5.4 per game), blocks (1.9 per game) and steals (1.6 per game) in his fourth season.

Malcolm Brogdon was named Rookie of the Year after his productive first season. Embiid, Saric, Buddy Hield, and Willy Hernangomez were the other first-year players selected.

The Milwaukee Bucks had a banner night at the first NBA Awards on Monday night.

It was only fitting that Giannis Antetokounmpo wrapped up his historic 2016-17 season with a pile of awards.

Antetokounmpo was also voted to his first All-Star team. Denver's Nikola Jokic came in second, followed by Rudy Gobert of Utah, Otto Porter Jr. of Washington, and Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics. He became the first rookie Buck to notch a triple-double on December 31 in Chicago, when he dropped 15 points with 12 assists and 10 rebounds. "So I just want to say thank you to everybody".

"I'll be the next one to beat them", he vowed.
