Uber Loses Top Executive As Its CEO Ponders A Leave Of Absence

Led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, the investigation focused on Uber's toxic company culture that was blown wide open by an explosive blog post from a former employee in February.

Following Sundays board meeting, any recommendations are expected to be relayed to employees at an all-hands meeting Tuesday.

Uber has already taken steps to address concerns over harassment.

Board members voted unanimously to adopt all of the firm's recommendations, which were to be released to employees on Tuesday, the spokesman said. Along with a review of the long-in-the-works report on harassment, they'll reportedly consider a leave of absence for Travis Kalanick and a top executive is expected to resign on Monday. Uber executive Eric Alexander was sacked on 7 June for mishandling the medical report of a woman who was raped by an Uber employee in India in 2014.

Uber executive Eric Alexander was sacked last week after reporters pressed the company about reports he had carried around confidential records of a woman who was raped during an Uber ride in India.

According to the NYT report, if these moves are acted upon, it would scale back Kalanick's involvement in the company and take away his ally in the company that he built into a $70 billion entity.

One of the issues that came to Holder's team's attention, according to two people familiar with the matter, was the company's handling of a crisis in India after one of its drivers was arrested for raping a customer. Uber now has nine board members and seven hold super-voting shares that give them more power.

After a Sunday meeting that lasted more than six hours, a representative for Uber's board said directors approved several changes, without providing clarity on the fates of chief executive Travis Kalanick or his confidant and head of business, Emil Michael.

More over in the past year or so, Mr Kalanick has earned a status as an uncompromising leader and was condemned heavily after being caught on video berating an Uber driver.

Kalanick's full-on removal has been the topic of debate between investors and reporters like our own Lance Ulanoff, and even a leave of absence would be a significant development for the embattled exec.

Last week, the company had announced that it had fired more than 20 employees after receiving more than 215 complaints about its workplace.

Uber board member Arianna Huffington said in March that Mr Kalanick needed to change his leadership style from that of a "scrappy entrepreneur" to be more like a "leader of a major global company".
