Free Armed Forces Day train travel for active service personnel and veterans

Over 300 events including parades, military displays and community fetes will take place on Saturday.

Armed Forces Day, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday), aims to increase public support and awareness about the contribution made on behalf of the nation by the Armed Forces.

"The men and women who serve or have served in the Armed Forces often sacrifice so much for our freedom so it is vital we show our gratitude and recognise the vital contribution the armed forces community make to our country".

Kevin Gray MM, CEO, Royal British Legion Scotland (Legion Scotland), said: "As Scotland's largest ex-Service membership charity, providing essential wellbeing and befriending services to veterans whether they left service yesterday or 50 years ago, we know just how important Armed Forces Day is".

He said he was pleaded with the turnout in the city. "To everyone who serves, or has served, the rail industry salutes you".

I am proud to raise this flag on behalf of all those in East Hampshire who value the fantastic job the men and women of the Armed Forces do.

Before the event, Sir Michael Fallon announced that almost 11,000 service personnel had been able to get on the housing ladder or change their home using payments from the Forces Help to Buy scheme, launched in April 2014.

Prime Minister Theresa May and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon both marked the day by taking part in the celebrations in Liverpool.
