Authorities: Texas mom left 2 kids in hot car as punishment

Her two young kids died after she left them in a hot vehicle in May, and now a Texas mother is facing criminal charges.

Now, authorities are claiming that a north Texas mom by the name of Cynthia Marie Randolph left her 2-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son alone in a hot vehicle for hours.

Randolph found her two children, a 16-month-old boy named Cavanaugh Ramirez and 2-year-old Juliet Ramirez, playing inside the vehicle.

Randolph initially told investigators that the children had disappeared from an enclosed porch while she was folding laundry, and somehow managed to lock themselves inside the vehicle. Temperatures in the area had reportedly hit 96 degrees outside the day Randolph's children died inside her vehicle.

Cynthia Marie Randolph, 24, was jailed Friday on two counts of causing serious bodily harm to a child.

Randolph then when back into the home, smoked marijuana and slept for two to three hours, according to FOX4. Through multiple interviews with investigators over the past month, Randolph "created several variations of the events" of May 26, police said.

Those children died last month.

Sheriff's deputies on scene inquired about the time length the children had been exposed to extreme temperatures inside the vehicle. Her bond has not been set.

Authorities were called to the home at about 4 p.m. when the mother said she had discovered them unresponsive in the vehicle. "A child is likely to die when his body temperature reaches 107 degrees, and that can happen in minutes". Emergency medical personnel were contacted and both children were pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m.

The Texas mom is now in custody at Park County Jail.

Sixteen-month-old Cavanaugh Ramirez and two-year-old Juliet Ramirez were found dead in a sedan.

Sheriff Fowler originally said on May 26, that any incidents involving any child are hard ones, but this call was especially heartbreaking with the unfortunate deaths of the two children.
