Four US soldiers killed in apparent insider attack in Afghanistan

An Afghan soldier opened fire on American soldiers on Saturday, injuring at least seven, the US military said.

Abdul Qahar Aram, spokesman for the corps, told Anadolu Agency that the wounded troops had been taken to hospital.

Robert Purtiman, a spokesman for the US -led mission in Afghanistan, said that the USA military was aware of "an incident" at Camp Shaheen in Mazar-e Sharif. There were no US fatalities.

Last week, a Taliban infiltrator in the Afghan army shot two US soldiers dead before being killed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Saturday's attack.

If confirmed, the insider attack would be the second in a week in Afghanistan.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, he added but did not detail the incident.

"We are investigating and have no reports yet of any foreign troops killed in the attack".

Afghan officials also confirmed the attack and that the attacker had been shot dead. "More information will be provided as it becomes available".

Green-on-blue attacks have been a major problem during NATO's long years fighting alongside Afghan forces.

United States troops are also at risk in other parts of Afghanistan.

The injured troops have been evacuated for treatment, the mission said in a statement.
