Four lines of possible questions for Attorney General Sessions

It also means the Russian Federation storm will continue to swamp President Donald Trump's agenda.

"President Trump knows that the country he has been elected to lead is threatened daily by terrorists who believe in a radical ideology, and that there are active plots to infiltrate the United States immigration system - just as occurred prior to 9/11", Sessions said in a statement yesterday.

Tuesday's testimony, scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. (1830 GMT), will be the first for Sessions in a congressional hearing since he became attorney general.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify publicly Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, the panel confirmed Monday, setting up a potentially riveting sequel to former FBI Director James Comey's blockbuster hearing last week. Franken and Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.), both Democrats on the Judiciary Committee, wrote a letter to Comey, who was still FBI director, asking him to open a criminal investigation into whether Sessions had perjured himself. Trump rewarded his loyalty on the campaign by tapping him as the nation's top law enforcement officer.

Since then, lawmakers have raised questions about a possible third meeting at a Washington hotel, though the Justice Department has said that did not happen.

The second key line of questioning senators should pursue, Anders said, is about how Sessions perceives the scope of his own recusal from the Russian Federation investigation.

Sessions has been dogged by questions about possible additional encounters with the ambassador, Sergey Kislyak.

There is a great deal we don't know about the potential Trump campaign contacts with Russian officials, such as who may have directed them and who, if anyone, knew of Putin's intentions to interfere with the electoral outcome. Comey testified that in the privacy of the Oval Office, the President asked him to let the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn drop.

Spokesman Sean Spicer said Monday that Queen Elizabeth II had invited the president and "we look forward to scheduling that trip".

He did not explicitly endorse Sessions' appearance, saying in response to a question, "We're aware of it, and we'll go from there".

As news of his testimony broke, Sessions attended a Cabinet meeting with Trump at the White House.

While Comey did not run to tell Sessions of his concerns over what the President supposedly said about the investigation of Michael Flynn, Comey did say he asked Sessions to shield him from Mr. Trump, anxious by the President's phone calls and questions.

Spicer also declined to say whether Trump agrees with Sessions' decision to testify.

Comey testified that the FBI investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign did not extend to Trump himself during the time Comey was leading the FBI. Sources told CNN last week that the attorney general offered to resign after a series of heated exchanges with the President over his decision to recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe.

Sessions' appearance before the intelligence committee is an indication of just how much the Russian Federation investigation has shaded his tenure. Comey asked last week. She said she's trying to keep her focus on helping her father change the status quo.

"Two meetings, one very brief after a speech", Sessions said. Democratic Sens. Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Al Franken of Minnesota had asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation early previous year to review the possible third meeting with Kislyak.
