Marches against Islamic law draw opposition

Seattle police say they are prepared for two protests - one against Sharia and the other pro-Muslim - in downtown on Saturday.

The New York Antifa Alliance, which represents a coalition of anti-fascists from across New York, has made a public statement that they will gather in Syracuse to "take action in defense of people in this community who have been targeted for violence by attendees of the so-called 'March Against Sharia'".

With counterprotests slated to take place in more than a dozen cities hosting the National March Against Sharia, many expect clashes between far-right activists and militant anti-fascists. Every march needs to have a "Not With Us" sign to hold next to any such people, he advised. As has been reported, people from Portland are traveling to join Seattleites for the protest.

In some cities, liberal advocacy groups said they would hold counter-rallies or alternative events, like the "No to Extremism and Bigotry". "We're actually helping to fight for Muslim women, who are disproportionately affected the most by these practices".

"Part of the rally will be a march that goes toward City Hall, but there is no plan to have a confrontation".

That march is scheduled for 9 Occidental Park. They chanted, "our Muslim brothers are under attack". Right-wing paramilitary groups such as the Oath Keepers offered to provide private security at the rallies.

However, many in the country view the demonstrations as attacks on Muslims.

But critics warn Gabriel's march is not patriotism but Islam-a-phobia.

Sharia refers to Muslim religious law.

ACT for America claims that Sharia oppresses Muslim women and children.

In response to the Lansing event, Mayor Virg Bernero said he was deeply disturbed by the event and said the city of Lansing does not tolerate discrimination and stands in solidarity with Muslims in the community.

"This is against all our values", ACT said in a statement on its website about the Arkansas cancellation.

"We want to protect our constitution, and we want to protect women and Americans everywhere", Scott Presler, a spokesperson for ACT for America, the grassroots policy organization behind the anti-Sharia march on Saturday, said.

One of the demonstrations is billed as an anti-Sharia law march and it's permitted for the steps of City Hall.

Participants anxious that Islamic law could influence USA courts and harm women, among other concerns.

During the press conference, which was streamed on Facebook Live, Dingell said she and her Muslim neighbors in Dearborn "are exhausted of this fear and this hatred that is becoming more and more pronounced every day". I didn't really know much about radical Muslims, jihad.

Muslim leaders across the country, including here in Colorado, are concerned about the rallies, saying the rallies are not against Sharia Law but against Muslims.

ACT for America has chapters around the country and says it is focused on fighting terrorism and promoting national security.

American flags fluttered in a cooling breeze on an 86-degree afternoon, and people posed for pictures in front of a 1977 Winnebago covered with Donald Trump campaign posters.

"Allies should be on the frontlines", said Somerson.

The nationwide march is one of the largest coordinated efforts by the ACT, despite a small expected turnout based on the event's Facebook page.

Gabriel, who often appears as a cheerleader for Trump in conservative media, has trumpeted her group's ties to the White House.
