Apple Premieres First Original Series, 'Planet of the Apps'

The show is set for ten episodes with the first episode being available to everyone on iTunes and subsequent episodes available to Apple Music subscribers. In the first episode, which was made available on Apple Music on Tuesday, young men and women, each as convinced of the ingenuity of their endeavors as the next, give a pitch as they descend a moving ramp, looking a bit like the robots in Westworld meeting their makers.

The "Planet of the Apps" is part of an effort to add exclusive video programming to Apple's music streaming service to help attract new subscribers.

Planet of the Apps, Apple's first foray into original programming, premiered last night and it's basically a lovely all-tech version of Shark Tank.

Apple notes that the free status of the Planet of the Apps premiere is a "limited time" offer, so if you're curious to see how the show stacks up against other SVOD originals, you may want to check it out sooner rather than later. The four stars and investors of the program are Will.i.am, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and Gary Vaynerchuk.

The debut episode of Planet of the Apps plays more or less as promised - a tech-focused Shark Tank spliced with elements of The Voice.

Apple has reworked and updated its App Store Review Guidelines, in some cases altering the rules that developers are expected to adhere to when submitting apps to the digital storefront.

After the first step, the judges can express their interest in partnering with the developer to create the app.

Well according to even the most sympathetic reviewers in the Tame Apple press the show is really dire. The first one is that you will know who everyone is, when they are only famous for supporting Apple to the point of naming their own children after the company.

Developers can submit up to three video app previews and five screenshots, which can now be localized so a customer in any country can have a customized version of the video.

Apple Music is set to bow original series "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" on August 8, featuring a lineup of celebrity guests.

What do you think of Planet of the Apps?

Planet of the Apps came from musician will.i.am, who with producer Ben Silverman had shopped the series to traditional TV players before approaching Apple.

Let's just say it's not going to be a cakewalk for the app developers.
