Putin dismisses U.S. claims about Trump, Russia and elections

And despite saying there had been no reports, Putin volunteered that “there was not even a specific discussion of sanctions or something else.” In a discussion moderated by Kelly on Friday, Putin said it was “nuts” to suggest the Trump administration had moved to ease economic sanctions on Russian Federation.

The interview with Putin - conducted last week during an economic forum in St. Petersburg - was the opening segment in the debut episode of "Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly".

Flynn is one among a number of current and former Trump associates at the center of investigations into whether anyone close to the president helped Russian Federation interfere in the US election, and whether any crimes were committed.

If that sounds a bit like Mr Putin is travelling up "Imagination Lane", he offered up another conspiratorial spectacular last week, when he was asked whether Russian Federation was responsible for a chemical weapons attack in northern Syria back in April.

Senator Roy Blunt, a Republican member of the intelligence committee, said Mr Comey's evidence would be critical to address mounting questions about possible obstruction of justice.

During the interview, Putin underlined that the United States itself has a history of meddling in foreign elections. "There's a theory that Kennedy's assassination was arranged by the United States intelligence services", he explained.

The FBI also is probing whether anyone associated with Trump's presidential campaign was involved in the Russian hacking.

"I will tell you something that you probably already know", he said.

"Have you all lost your senses over there?" "I have no idea", he said at one point, exhibiting an impressive lack of curiosity about what's happening within his own government.

As for his connection to former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who was sacked back in February for misleading the White House about his ties to Russia, Putin again downplayed their rumored relationship.

Kelly pushed back on Putin's claims, including saying it sounded like the Russian president was trying to justify his attempts to influence elections.

Does Putin have damaging information on Trump?

"This is just another load of nonsense".

Lawmakers should get the chance to hear from fired FBI Director James Comey - and President Donald Trump "is better served by getting all this information out".

The Russian President then also denied having a personal relationship with his USA counterpart, saying: "We didn't have any relationship at all". Putin noted that executives from perhaps 100 American companies were now in Russian Federation. "Do you think we're gathering compromising information on all of them right now or something?"

Asked if Jared Kushner tried to set up a secret line of communication between the Trump transition team and Russia, Putin said "no proposal like that came to me".

As the Washington Post notes, Russian intelligence officials actually are known to gather compromising information on influential foreigners who enter the country. "This is our message", President Putin said. "Your lives must be so boring", if Americans are reduced to making up stories about Russian Federation, he said.

Putin also shot down Kelly's one non-election related question about his reputation for killing journalists and dissidents.
