Predators left surprised, determined by Johansen's injury

He collected the loose puck and banked a backhander off a post and past Anaheim goalie Jonathan Bernier for Nashville's lone power play goal of the night.

Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf has been fined thousands of dollars for making an "inappropriate remark" during Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

Bernier came on in relief for Anaheim to start the second period. "This was his first playoff game and he played like he's been in the League for 10 years", said star forward Filip Forsberg of Gaudreau, seeing his first action since January 8.

Nashville Predators scoring leader Ryan Johansen was resting in a Tennessee hospital following emergency surgery after a left thigh injury that ended his National Hockey League season.

Nashville is dealing with its own injury problems. Nashville has gone 5-1 on home ice in the postseason, with the lone loss coming in overtime against the Ducks in Game 4. "And we want to make sure that they understand that we're looking for those players to make a contribution to our group for 15 years, not five years". Makes the game victor even more impressive.

The Predators still haven't lost back-to-back games at any point in what's looking like a charmed playoff run for an 18-season-old franchise that's finally one game from playing for the Stanley Cup. However, the Predators have been the better team in this series overall and one could argue they've been the best team throughout these entire playoffs.

"When they skate, usually that leads you to believe that there is a great opportunity for him to play", head coach Randy Carlyle said at Monday's media availability.

Nashville Predators center Colin Wilson scores against Anaheim Ducks goalie Jonathan Bernier during the second period of Game 5 in the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Western Conference finals in Anaheim Calif. Saturday May 20

"It's just the way that we were built", Forsberg said.

Nothing appeared illegal about Manson's contact with either Nashville center, but the Predators have been frustrated by Anaheim's hard-nosed approach to hockey. Rickard Rickell and Patrick Eaves did not make the trip to Nashville and will miss game six. The Predators beat the Ducks in Game 7 of the first round last season.

Pontus Aberg, who played only 15 games with the Predators all season, scored the victor on his first career playoff goal. You can't find one of the four teams left standing that isn't missing a significant player or running out of ice at this time of year.

Now, more than ever, they'll need to collectively raise their game to the highest level.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Pontus Aberg spent most of the season in the minors, and he had a part-time depth role for the Nashville Predators in these Stanley Cup playoffs until injuries thrust him into a key role in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.

"That's my responsibility to understand that there are eyes and ears on us all the time", Getzlaf said.

"They've been getting a lot of attention for how they've been playing and they've been playing good".
