'Top Gun 2': 'Oblivion's Joseph Kosinski Frontrunner To Direct Tom Cruise Sequel

Cruise recently said that Top Gun 2, now over 30 years since after first movie's release, is in fact happening. The film earned more than $350 million worldwide and turned charismatic Cruise into a superstar.
Kosinski is an excellent director when it comes to visuals and style so this is definitely the flawless match for a Top Gun sequel. The actor replied in the affirmative and further revealed that the movie will probably go on the floors from next year onwards. Other plot details are vague but Val Kilmer has gone on record that he was asked to come back to reprise the role of Iceman opposite Cruise's Maverick.
Cruise reportedly met with potential directors for Top Gun 2 before and during the filming of Mission Impossible 6 in London.
The original film was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson.
Bruckheimer will produce the sequel, and according to Hollywood ReporterJoseph Kosinski is now the front-runner to assume directing duties as original director Tony Scott unfortunately passed away in 2012.
