Kumar Vishwas slams Kejriwal on MCD election defeat

The AAP chief said betraying the party and the movement, of which it is a product, would be tantamount to "betraying God".

Vishwas, a member of party's top decision making body, the Political Affairs Committee, said there has been a "communication gap" between the party, its volunteers and voters, adding that the AAP is getting "Congressionised" to an extent.

He also said there was no intra-party democracy in AAP. "They might send you to jail or try to suppress your voice, but do not fear", the Delhi chief minister said.

The entire exercise was undertaken when a few party leaders, including Sanjay Singh, Durgesh Pathak and Ashish Talwar, offered to resign from their posts, taking responsibility for the party's defeat in the polls.

The latest to lambast the AAP leadership was party's star campaigner and Lok Sabha member from Sangrur, Bhagwant Mann, who slammed the high command for the drubbing in the recent state Assembly elections and questioned the logic of not naming a chief ministerial candidate.

On being asked if there is need to change the leadership in AAP, Kumar Vishwas said, "We will discuss this in the party soon". "Instead of blaming others, we must introspect for the loss". However, unlike many leaders Kumar Vishwas said that blaming EVMs is not good.

A reminder of the slew of AAP resignations today. I think introspection is very much needed for the betterment of the party. I do have a following and as an honest soldier of the party, there were occasions where I felt my presence could have helped. Commenting upon the row over his daughter's involvement in Health ministry's projects, Vishwas said that though Jain's daughter harboured no bad intentions, the row could easily have been avoided.

"Many decisions of the present Captain Amarinder Singh government including the ban on red beacons and promise for farm loan waiver have been copied from the AAP manifesto which was released much before the Congress", he said.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party stormed to power in Delhi two years ago as it buried the BJP and Congress under a landslide. "Somewhere, the party has lost the connect with ground realities". The Delhi CM in fact extended that hostility even to the extent of asking the Centre for "proof" that surgical strikes took place on terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir last September.
