April the giraffe's fans smash YouTube viewing records

April gave birth to a boy calf last Saturday around 10:00 am ET.

The owner of Animal Adventure Park in upstate NY says the not-yet-named baby boy was on its feet within an hour after its birth Saturday - and galloping around its mother within three hours.

He was born on 2.55pm BST on Saturday in Animal Adventure Park, New York. However, it was nowhere close to the most-viewed live-streaming event in YouTube's history: That's the Red Bull Stratos space jump by skydiver Felix Baumgartner in October 2012, which more than 8 million people watched live concurrently on YouTube.

A video posted on their page shows the first steps the calf took in its pen.

"Mom had a ideal delivery, flawless birthing", he said. It's located in Harpursville, New York, just 15 minutes outside of Binghamton, New York.

"For about 10 days you can vote on any name or names you choose for April's new calf", a statement on the zoo's website said. April's almost 16-month pregnancy culminated this Saturday, when she gave birth to her calf after being in labor for two hours.

Ever since April the giraffe went viral, zoo officials have said they would hold a social media contest to name the newborn. The victorious name will be chosen in two weeks time.

The calf was born yesterday at the zoo in Harpursville, New York, about 209 km northwest of New York City.

He began nursing not long after.

Since February, fans of the giraffe were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new calf and paid close attention to live streams from Animal Adventure Park and numerous outlets across the Internet, including the CBSDFW Facebook page.

"His entrance into the world was unnerving to even those of us who have witnessed animal births previously", said Animal Adventure Park owner, Jordan Patch in a press release. Animal Adventure Park also has a GoFundMepage, and fans who want to see the giraffes up close can go to upstate NY to meet them.
