Book: Clinton Says 2016 Election 'Was My Last Race'

And Clinton herself hasn't given a definitive answer as to whether or not she'll make another attempt to move back into the White House.

Democrats have many theories for why Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election to Donald Trump.

"Congratulations Donald", Clinton said, as she struggled to suppress her emotions, according to the book by The Hill's Parnes and Sidewire's Allen.

Chief strategist Jake Sullivan said: "Everything you said, we're going to do in the speech".

Ultimately, Allen and Parnes get inside the campaign but not inside the mind of Hillary Clinton. There would be no victory to celebrate.

According to the book, after the results for the key swing states were announced, Obama argued that there was no point "prolonging the inevitable" by calling for recounts.

"POTUS doesn't think it's wise to drag this out", Obama's political director David Simas Simas reportedly told Mook.

But Clinton was dragging it out.

Allen added: "The infighting is definitely there, the way that she dealt with her staff, she and her husband reamed them out for not being able to figure out how to get past the email issue. and start talking about her economic message".

"You need to concede", the book says Obama told his former secretary of state over the phone. Does she have something she really wants to say?

A new book chronicling Hillary Clinton's failed 2016 bid for the presidency is making headlines for an anecdote of the problems caused by the candidate's lack of communication with her wider campaign, relying often on just a few close confidantes as a go-between even with top campaign officials.

After a slightly prolonged hesitation, Clinton took Obama's advise and called Trump to concede defeat.

"Mr. President", she said softly, "I'm sorry".

The dire scene in the Peninsula unearths a bit of history that was mostly left unreported in the madness that followed that night, as the country and the world focused nearly entirely on the emerging reality of Trump's victory.

The Clinton campaign decided not to run the commercial because many voters felt that Sanders was not genuine saying the slogan.

Two reporters who covered the campaign and were there when Clinton conceded to Trump have written a book, Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign, and it's a no holds barred account of what went down.
