Jared Kushner omits some foreign contacts on security form

Trump reorganised his National Security Council Wednesday, removing Bannon from the principals committee on the same day the president was considering options for a missile strike against Syria.

The men met on Friday at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, after being ordered to by White House chief of staff Reince Priebus at the request of the president, according to reports.

Former Trump advisors telling Reuters that Kushner is trying to tug the president into a more mainstream position, while Bannon is trying to keep aflame the nationalist fervor that carried Trump to victory.

There was the first visit to United States of China's President Xi Jinping, the confirmation vote for a Supreme Court justice, and the bombing of Syria among other major stories during the week.

Bannon, the former head of the conservative news outlet Breitbart, is a right wing bomb-thrower who powered Trump's populist campaign message. Sources told the publication that Bannon thought Kushner tried to "shiv him and push him out the door".

Kushner and other aides anxious that Bannon's fixation on "deconstructing" government had not served Trump well in the first months of his presidency.

McMaster also said President Trump can "get advice from anybody he wants ... and he does that". But to ABC News, Bannon flatly denied the reports, calling them "absurd".

Dina Powell, a former partner at Goldman Sachs, now serves on the National Security Council, and officially as an aide to Ivanka. Multiple media reports over the past two days have suggested that Trump is considering a larger staff shake-up in order to turn the page on the turmoil of his administration's first few weeks, which Bannon had encouraged as part of his larger war with the establishment.

"But they are really going out there publicly, hammering Jared Kushner-aligned strategies because they see Steve could be in jeopardy and could be asked to leave at some point in the near future", he continued.

Wednesday, Trump spoke of seeing photographs of "innocent people, including women, small children and even attractive little babies", who had died from the gas attack.

U.S. President Donald Trump, concerned about infighting among his team, is considering a major shakeup of senior officials on his staff in an effort to eliminate some of the White House drama, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. I don't think somebody like that belongs in the White House and I can't imagine why Trump put him in there in the first place.

Possible replacements began circulating Friday morning, among them House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Gary Cohn, who has emerged as a trusted adviser to Trump as director of the National Economic Council.
