Mane out for the season, may need knee op

Mane is out for Liverpool, with Klopp confirming on Friday that the Senegal worldwide will not play again this season as he needs surgery on his knee.

"That is what I half-expected when I saw him after the game. Impossible that he will play again this season", Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told a news conference.

It didn't start well, as after Mane sustained the injury in the Merseyside derby last weekend, he missed the home clash with Bournemouth in midweek as Liverpool were held to a disappointing draw. He will need to be fit and ready for another long summer of coaching ahead of a fresh title challenge in 2017-18. "That is the only good news", Klopp said.

Added to that, Klopp confirmed that neither Jordan Henderson nor Adam Lallana will have recovered from their own injury problems for this weekend's trip to Stoke City, while Philippe Coutinho is a doubt through illness.

They toiled in a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth without their star man on Wednesday, too. He needs a few more days before we can have him back on the pitch.

Worrying for Klopp, the five games Mane has missed this season, Liverpool have drawn three and lost two. He was not at Melwood yesterday and he will not be here today.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool will be looking to consolidate their place in the Premier League's top four with victory at Stoke on Saturday (3pm kick-off). "We don't play any of our rivals any more so we can't influence them".

'Hendo [Jordan Henderson] is also in a good way but I'm still not sure when he can be part of training.

'In this moment we have not enough experienced players so we have to replace them with youth and less-experienced boys. Klopp will also know that Stoke sit back and defend deep when needed but can not risk throwing forward too many players and risk being hit on the counter.

Third-placed Liverpool, who face Stoke tomorrow, now have a better goal difference, but only by two, which could easily be wiped out when Arsene Wenger's side eventually catch up on their fixtures.
