Sprint lowers unlimited to $50, kills tiered pricing options

Instead, Sprint is left with customers on years-long unlimited plans for far too cheap, which contributes to Sprint's ongoing lack of profits. The report by the WSJ quotes industry analyst Jeffrey Moore, who says that Sprint's offering became untenable in the new unlimited data offering market.

"Our customers want wireless entertainment on their terms, and we're going to deliver", AT&T Entertainment Group Chief Marketing Officer David Christopher said in a statement.

As things stand right now, subscribers of the AT&T Unlimited Plus Wi-Fi plan are entitled to unlimited data, talk time and text.

The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday reported that the rise of unlimited plans, which Sprint claims account for more than 90% of their user base, is precisely what drove the company to stop offering that "50% off" discount.

According to the news release, speeds may slow down after 22 GB of data usage per line.

Those on the AT&T Unlimited Plus plan that don't take a pay TV service from AT&T will get credentials to access HBO via the DirecTV Now or HBO Go apps.

Sprint today announced its latest deal and retired a previous offer.

"Sprint launched "50% off" in 2015 as a bold offer to attract customers, and it was extremely successful".

Harry Wang, senior research director-Parks Associates, applauds the simplicity of Sprint's Unlimited offer. Sprint's strategy was to lure customers in and then upsell them to a more expensive service later, but with so many customers already being on unlimited plans, there was nothing to upsell.

Unlimited is also available to business customers, who can sign up for an unlimited number of lines. For example, Sprint has been pushing its 50% off promotion for the last three years, but it has chose to end the promotion this week, according to The Wall Street Journal. Sprint has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America for the past five years. Streams video at up to HD 1080p, music at up to 1.5Mbps, gaming at up to 8Mbps. Taxes, surcharges and restrictions apply.
